Service Project Manager / Estimator

SUMMARY

The Service Project Manager / Estimator at National Electric Works is responsible for estimating, managing, and successfully delivering electrical service work and small projects within the Service Department. This role manages projects from proposal through closeout while maintaining strong client relationships, supporting field coordination, and ensuring financial performance across assigned work.

The Service Project Manager / Estimator is expected to independently estimate service and small project opportunities, prepare proposals, secure awarded work, and oversee all operational and financial aspects of awarded projects. This position works collaboratively with the Service Superintendent, service technicians, vendors, subcontractors, and customers to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards.

The estimating and preconstruction portion of this role works collaboratively with the Director of Preconstruction to ensure consistency in estimating structure, proposal strategy, pricing approach, and long-term customer development initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Estimating & Business Development

  • Independently estimate electrical service work, T&M proposals, and small-to-mid-sized project opportunities.
  • Perform scope reviews, takeoffs, labor calculations, and material pricing.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations.
  • Prepare and submit proposals, quotations, and bid packages.
  • Follow up on submitted proposals and assist in securing awarded work.
  • Identify opportunities for additional work and maintain strong ongoing customer relationships.
  • Support development of repeat business opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Preconstruction to maintain consistency in estimating processes, proposal structure, pricing strategy, and customer approach.
  • Participate in strategic discussions related to client development, market opportunities, and long-term service growth initiatives.

Project Management & Project Delivery

  • Manage assigned service projects from kickoff through final billing and closeout.
  • Oversee project schedules, procurement activities, subcontractors, material deliveries, and project documentation.
  • Track labor productivity, job costs, and project financial performance.
  • Prepare, price, and process change orders in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation including proposals, contracts, submittals, RFIs, and closeout documents.
  • Coordinate with Accounting regarding billing, lien waivers, and project closeout requirements.
  • Ensure projects are completed in accordance with company standards, contract requirements, budgets, and schedules.

Client & Vendor Relations

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customers throughout project execution.
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients regarding schedules, project progress, and issue resolution.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and customers.
  • Represent National Electric Works professionally in meetings and customer interactions.

Field Coordination & Operations Support

  • Work collaboratively with the Service Superintendent to coordinate technician scheduling, manpower planning, and field execution.
  • Assist with service scheduling and dispatch coordination as needed within the Service Department.
  • Support field teams by ensuring materials, information, and project requirements are communicated clearly and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with field leadership to maintain jobsite safety, quality workmanship, and compliance with company standards and OSHA requirements.
  • Participate in operational planning discussions to support efficient execution of service and small project work.

Financial Performance & Forecasting

  • Monitor project budgets, labor utilization, and profitability across assigned projects.
  • Provide accurate forecasting for labor, materials, equipment, and project completion.
  • Assist in maintaining department financial goals through proper project planning and execution.
  • Identify financial risks early and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Process Improvement & Department Support

  • Support implementation and adherence to Service Department operational procedures and documentation standards.
  • Participate in department meetings, planning discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in development of efficient workflows and service department processes.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, responsiveness, professionalism, and teamwork.

EDUCATION, SKILL, EXPERIENCE OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES

  • Minimum 10 years of electrical industry experience with strong estimating and project management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience independently estimating and managing electrical service and small project work from proposal through closeout.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and industrial electrical systems including service work, lighting, controls, panels, troubleshooting, and tenant improvements.
  • Experience developing and maintaining long-term customer relationships and generating repeat business opportunities preferred.
  • Experience coordinating with IBEW or union field labor preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare, commercial property, life sciences, industrial, or mission-critical environments preferred.
  • Established relationships within the San Diego market preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Accubid, and Accubid Change Order preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, negotiation, and customer service skills required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Valid California Driver’s License required.

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience ranging from $140,000 – $170,000 annually.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Standard office and jobsite environment with frequent visits to active customer facilities and construction sites. The individual will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear.
